Many Quebecers have been victimized by the rampant prescription of opioids as a result of the misleading and aggressive sales and marketing efforts of numerous pharmaceutical companies.
On May 23, 2019, Fishman Flanz Meland Paquin LLP, in collaboration with Trudel, Johnston & Lespérance, filed an application for authorization to institute a class action against the manufacturers, marketers and/or distributors of opioid drugs in Quebec, including fentanyl, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, methadone, morphine, oxycodone and oxymorphone.
The class action seeks to compensate every person in Quebec who suffers or has suffered from opioid use disorder following the use of prescription opioids and who has been diagnosed by a physician with opioid use disorder.
A class action was authorized by judgment dated April 10, 2024 of the Superior Court of Quebec (Class Action Chamber).
